Stek has advised Return Energy on the development of Antares, the second-largest battery energy storage system (BESS) in the Netherlands. The Antares project, located in Waddinxveen, will feature a 100 MW/200 MWh battery directly connected to TenneT and is expected to become operational by mid-2026. The facility will contribute to grid stabilization, reduce congestion, and support the integration of renewable energy sources, strengthening the transition to a more sustainable energy system. Technical execution will be carried out by facility partners Alfen and SPIE Nederland, while Vattenfall will act as one of multiple capacity off-takers.
Return Energy is realizing the Antares project with ING, Meewind, and Nationaal Groenfonds as project financiers.
